'MISSING' YOLNGU BARK PETITION REPATRIATED TO EAST ARNHEM LAND, NORTHERN TERRITORY

An important bark petition regarding Australian Indigenous Land Rights that has been 'missing' for decades has been returned to the Yolngu people of Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. 

Created by Yolngu elders in the 1960s to protest mining on their land of the Gove Peninsula, the petition was finally returned to Yirrkala, NT, and was placed in a prominent position at Buku-Larnnggay Mulka art centre in an important and joyous ceremony on Thursday 7 December 2023.

A highlight of Melbourne’s exhibition calendar the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) Triennial 2023 is now officially open.

The gallery is presenting 120 national and international artists across the 4 levels of the gallery.

The Triennal is a curation of contemporary works responding to political, sociological, and environmental questions important to the future of humanity.

Emily Kam Kngwarray exhibition at NGA now open

The very important and incredible retrospective of works by the late Emily Kam Kngwarray officially opened last week and will be on exhibition until 28 April 2024 at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra. Curated by Kelli Cole (Warumunga and Luritja peoples, Curator, Special Projects, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art) and Hetti Perkins (Arrernte and Kalkadoon peoples, Senior Curator-at-Large, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art).
