DEAN SMITH WINS MANNINGHAM VICTORIAN CERAMIC ART AWARD

Alcaston Gallery is delighted to announce that Central Victorian ceramicist Dean Smith is the recipient of the 2015 Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award.

This biennial acquisitive award surveys the diversity of current ceramic art practices and showcases the best ceramic artists working in Victoria today.

The 2015 prize was judged by Robert Reason, Curator of European & Australian Decorative Arts at the Art Gallery of South Australia. The exhibition was officially opened last night, Wednesday 15 July, by the Manningham Mayor, Cr. Paul McLeish.

Dean Smith’s winning artwork Pine Forest focuses on the link between the worked ceramic form and the disquieting landscape near his home in Castlemaine, where the raw post-mining landscape currently has a strong influence on his practice.
