Melbourne Art Fair Vernissage 2014

Melbourne Art Fair 2014 was officially launched last night with the Vernissage, this year enjoying a larger attendance than previous years. Alcaston Gallery Stand E103 was visited by artists Greg Semu, Selby Ginn and Angela Tiatia.

The art fair continues until Sunday August 17 2014.

Alcaston Gallery Stand E103 at Melbourne Art Fair

Alcaston Gallery is thrilled to present five artists at Melbourne Art Fair 2014, opening tonight at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne. Our stand (E103) includes installations by GREG SEMU and SELBY GINN, video work by ANGELA TIATIA, and representational works by SALLY GABORI and NONGGIRRNGA MARAWILI.

Telstra 2014 Award Winners announced

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Telstra National Indigenous & Torres Strait Islander Awards, announced last night in Darwin.

This year's Telstra award winner was Tony Albert for his photographic artwork We Can Be Heroes.

Other 2014 awards included:

  • Telstra General Painting Award won by Daniel Walbidi for his artwork Wirnpa and Sons
  • Telstra Bark Painting Award won by Garawan Wanambi for his artwork Marrangu
  • Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award won by Alick Tipoti for his artwork Kaygasiw Usul (Shovel Nosed Shark Dust Trail Reflected in the Heavens as the Milky Way)
  • Telstra Work on Paper Award won by Nici Cumpston for her artwork Scar Tree, Barkindji Country
  • Telstra Youth Award won by Kieren Karritpul for his work Yerrgi

Artists Sally Gabori, Naomi Hobson, Nonggirrnga Marawili, Emily Evans and Ray Ken are among the 2014 Telstra Award finalists. Their artworks are on display at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory from 8 August to 26 October 2014.

EXHIBITION OPENING EVENT | CORNELIA TIPUAMANTUMIRRI

On Saturday 2nd August 2014 Alcaston Gallery held the official opening event for CORNELIA TIPUAMANTUMIRRI's exhibition ‘Warnarringa - Jarrikalani: Sun – Turtle’, 22 July - 8 August 2014, Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne. The exhibition was launched by DELORES TIPUAMANTUMIRRI on behalf of her mother Cornelia Tipuamantumirri, with her daughter Jenna and grand-children.
