EVENT RECAP | TANIA MAJOR | MEET THE ARTIST EVENT
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday 15 November at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space - 84 William Street Naarm / Melbourne to celebrate the launch of Echoes of Country - Stories from Kowanyama and to meet the artist Tania Major, who travelled from Kowanyama country in Cape York, Queensland and enthralled the guests with an exclusive artist talk. Tania was also accompanied by her wonderful family: her mum, Pricilla Major (pictured below left), husband Lyndon Rex, children David Rex and Lyllyian Major and nieces Kaylah and Yasmin Daniel - thank you all for making the event such a success!

Thank you to all who attended our Barkly Artists exhibition launch on Saturday afternoon at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space - 84 William Street Naarm / Melbourne and had the pleasure of meeting artists Aileen Napaljarri Long and Ada Pula Beasley, who had travelled from the Barkly Regionin the Northern Territory to Melbourne for this very special event. Many thanks to artists Jessie Kemarr Peterson, Rita Kemarr Beasley, and Valda Shannon, Emerson Radisich and Blake Chitty of Barkly Regional Arts, NT and to Marina Strocchi for her wonderful essay and contribution to the exhibition catalogue.

With over 150 works, Bark Salon is the largest-ever staging of the NGV’s dynamic and expansive holdings of bark paintings. Exhibited on the ground floor of the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, within Wurrdha Marra, Bark Salon showcases the breadth of bark painting as a genre, tracing genealogical shifts in form, aesthetic, narrative and politic. In celebrating the medium of bark, Bark Salon offers a uniquely First Peoples response to this iconic mode of display.
