CONGRATULATIONS! NELLIE NGAMPA COULTHARD WINNER | LEN FOX PAINTING AWARD 2024
Alcaston Gallery and Iwantja Arts are delighted to announce that Nellie Ngampa Coulthard has won the prestigious $50,000 acquisitive Len Fox Painting Award 2024 presented at Castlemaine Art Museum from 27 September 2024 – 2 March 2025.
Coulthard’s win is a landmark achievement in her career and cements her practice amongst the most important contemporary painters in Australia.
Reflecting on her work, she says "I paint the trees and flowers of the Country where I grew up - Yankunytjatjara Country near Oodnadatta. After the rain and before the summer starts, the landscape here changes colour with lots of wattle blossoms.”

A genius artist loved by so many across the universe, his electric musical interpretations of his beloved AC/DC and all things Rock n Roll; and his deep knowledge of culture and love of his people reverberated through his artworks.

VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES FIRST NATIONS NAME OF NEW MELBOURNE ARTS PRECINCT PUBLIC URBAN GARDEN
The Victorian Government has announced the First Nations name of the new, forthcoming 18,000 square metre public urban garden at the centre of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project.
Laak Boorndap is a Wurrundjeri Woi-Wurrung name bestowed by Traditional Owner, Aunty Gail Smith. This expansive public garden reflects First Peoples' long tradition of gathering by and caring for Birrarung (the Yarra river), the garden will feature a prominent waterway that people can sit near and take in the sounds of trickling water.
