The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) has announced the finalists that have been selected to be part of the country's most prestigious national Indigenous art awards, the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) 2018.

Congratulations to Nonggirrnga Marawili who is a finalist in the Alice Prize which opened today!

The Alice Prize celebrates its 40th incarnation with an increased award for the winning artwork of $40,000.

The exhibition of finalists opened today at the Araluen Art Centre in Darwin. The winner on the prize will be announced tomorrow.

The judge for the 40th Alice Prize is Brian Ritchie, curator of the MONA FOMA festival and member of the Violent Femmes. The winning work is acquired for the Araluen Art Collection, continuing the Alice Springs Art Foundation’s essential contribution to both the establishment and ongoing enhancement of one of the largest regional Australian art collections, for the benefit of the Central Australian community.

Local Swan Hill students and community members will work with Judy Holding and local artists Shirley Pinchen and Kerryn Finch to create the city’s next piece of public art – Swan Hill’s Biggest Print.

Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery has received funding to deliver the project – a 15 metre long artwork that will take up the entire western wall of the Gallery.

Alcaston Gallery is thrilled that Karen Mills and Sally Gabori are included in Chaos & Order: 120 Years of Collecting at RMIT.

Chaos & Order celebrates over 80 Australian and international artists in an ambitious survey of the RMIT Art Collection. Also included in the exhibition is artworks by Kawita Vatanajyankur

The exhibition runs from 13th April – 9th June 2018.

Congratulations to Betty Muffler and Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel on being named finalists in the 2018 John Fries Award! 

Curated by interdisciplinary artist, academic and curator, Consuelo Cavaniglia, the John Fries Award is a $10,000 non-acquisitive award recognising the talents of early career visual artists from Australia and New Zealand. Now in its ninth year, the annual award is a platform for some of the most engaging and experimental works from the next wave of contemporary artists in the region. Finalists will present artworks in the award exhibition at UNSW Galleries from September 29 to November 3, 2018.
