Alcaston Gallery is honoured to present new paintings on bark, timber board and larrkitj poles by Yolngu artist Djakangu Yunupingu in her second solo exhibition Djulpan - Heavenly Women at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space – 84 William Street Melbourne from 5 April – 3 May 2024.

Djakangu Yunupingu’s celestial paintings depict the Yolngu poetic law of the Djulpan story; the story of the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades constellation, a cluster of stars that appears in the western sky above Arnhem Land during April.

Yunupingu's refined practice and exquisite sense of composition across larrakitj, bark, and timber board demonstrate both a continuation of a powerful family lineage, but also affirm her standing within the contemporary art context.

Following her sell-out debut solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery in 2023, Yunupingu was invited to present a prominent solo installation at the 2023 Tarnanthi, Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide.

Yunupingu presents her second solo exhibition, Djulpan - Heavenly Women at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space – 84 William Street Melbourne from 5 April – 3 May 2024.
