IN REVIEW | BETTY KUNTIWA PUMANI: MAḺATJA-MAḺATJA (THOSE WHO COME AFTER)
Work by Betty Kuntiwa Pumani is currently on exhibition in her first major solo survey, maḻatja-maḻatja (those who come after) at Bundanon Art Museum until 5 October 2025. Curated by Bundanon CEO Rachel Kent in collaboration with Pumani and Mimili Maku Arts, this outstanding exhibition includes a specially commissioned large-scale painting as well as major loans from public and private galleries, including the National Gallery of Australia.

As part of the Artist Room series, The Colour of Memory: Sally Gabori at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia showcases work by the late artist that brilliantly portray her home country of Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, off the coast of far north Queensland.

A decade after her passing, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (c.1924-2015)’s legacy continues to define and elevate Australian contemporary art - we now look back three years ago, to the opening of the major solo survey of paintings by the late artist at the distinguished Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, France in 2022.

On the 21 June, the Alcaston Gallery curators were honoured to attend the official opening of the spectacular new exhibition, Yolŋu Power: the art of Yirrkala at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
As its name declares, this is a truly powerful exhibition and it was a stirring experience to see such an outstanding display of art and culture. It was a joy to see so many artists who have worked with Alcaston Gallery over our 36 years represented in is extensive survey of art from Yirrkala. Congratulations to all involved in creating and curating this tour du force!
Yolŋu Power: the art of Yirrkala is now open! We highly recommend you visit this landmark exhibition, presented until 6 October 2025.
