SIR DOUG NICHOLLS INDIGENOUS AFL ROUND OFFICIALLY KICKS OFF
ART + SPORT unite! First Nations AFL players gather in Bark Salon at NGV Australia to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous AFL Round!
DREAMTIME AT THE G | ESSENDON VS RICHMOND AFL MATCH MCG, MELBOURNE, FRIDAY 23 MAY 2025
Dreamtime at the G, the annual AFL match between Essendon and Richmond will take place during the Sir Doug Nicholls - Indigenous Round on Friday, May 23 at the iconic MCG Melbourne.
This is a significant event on the Australian cultural calendar, and to Alcaston Gallery Director, Beverly Knight. Alongside art, Beverly Knight's other passion is AFL footy; like her grandfather before her, Knight was a director of Essendon Football Club (1993-2010) - the first female to be elected to an AFL club board! She has been a trailblazer in supporting First Nations sport, especially AFL. Knight was the original instigator of the ANZAC Day game with Bruce Ruxton from the RSL and on the board of AFL Sportsready; and it was she and two colleagues from the Richmond Footy Club who literally "dreamed up" the Dreamtime at the G match! Up the 'Dons!
This very special screenprint by Marrnyula Munuŋgurr Dreamtime at the G 2010 is available for acquisition to mark this important cultural event.

MAJOR EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT | SHIRLEY MACNAMARA IN OUR STORIES: CONTEMPORARY INDIGENOUS WEAVING | CAIRNS ART GALLERY, 28 JUNE - 14 SEPTEMBER 2025
We are thrilled to share the opening of Our Stories: Contemporary Indigenous Weaving, featuring Alcaston Gallery represented artist Shirley Macnamara. Presented from 28 June - 14 September 2025, this exhibition explores the styles, purposes and materiality of the woven form and how it is influenced by the locality, the land and Country of its creators.
MAJOR EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT | BETTY KUNTIWA PUMANI: MAḺATJA-MAḺATJA (THOSE WHO COME AFTER) | BUNDANON ART MUSEUM, SHOALHAVEN, 28 JUNE - 5 OCTOBER 2025
Betty Kuntiwa Pumani presents her first major museum survey, maḻatja-maḻatja (those who come after), at Bundanon Art Museum, from 28 June - 5 October 2025. Curated by Bundanon CEO Rachel Kent in collaboration with Pumani and Mimili Maku Arts, this outstanding exhibition will include a specially commissioned large-scale painting as well as major loans from public and private galleries, including the National Gallery of Australia. These works will be shown alongside early works, drawn from Mimili Maku Arts Cultural Collection, shown here for the first time.
To celebrate the launch of this landmark exhibition, Bundanon present a free weekend-long celebration featuring artist talks and live music from Saturday 28 June - Sunday 29 June.
