Painted Country is now open at Manningham Art Gallery, presented until 12 July 2025. Alcaston Gallery was proud to partner with Manningham Art Gallery in the curation of this outstanding exhibition, which showcases paintings by Nellie Ngampa Coulthard, Brenda Napaljarri, Clara Napurrula, Rene Sundown and Adrian Jurra Tjungurrayi.
In celebration of Painted Country and Manningham Gallery's concurrent Design Week exhibition, Beyond the Table - The Dinner Party Reimagined, Manningham Art Gallery welcomes you to Art After Dusk, a special after-hours celebration will be held Thursday 22 May 5 PM - 8 PM - ALL WELCOME!

Presented at UNSW Galleries, Sydney from 24 May - 10 August 2025, Parlingarri Amintiya Ningani Awungarra: Old and New at Jilamara Arts, is a landmark major survey exhibition of contemporary art from the Tiwi Islands, celebrating artists from Jilamara Arts & Crafts, curated by Jose Da Silva with Jilamara Arts.
The exhibition proudly features newly commissioned and recent works by Walter Brooks, Kaye Brown, Johnathon World Peace Bush, Timothy Cook, Raelene Kerinauia Lampuwatu, Michelle Pulatuwayu Woody Minnapinni, Arthurina Moreen, Janice Murray Pungautiji, Matthew Freddy Puruntatameri, Patrick Freddy Puruntatameri, Conrad Kamilowra Tipungwuti, Columbiere Tipungwuti, Mickey Fogarty Wilson, Dino Wilson and Pedro Wonaeamirri. 65,000 YEARS: A SHORT HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN ART - OPENING WEEKEND CONVERSATIONS | SATURDAY 31 MAY - SUNDAY 1 JUNE | POTTER MUSEUM OF ART, UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE
Opening this month, we are excitedly anticipating the opening of the landmark exhibition 65,000 Years: A Short History of Australian Art, presented at the Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne from 30 May - 23 November.
The landmark exhibition includes rarely seen works of art and cultural objects from the University of Melbourne’s collections alongside 193 important loans from 77 public and private lenders including rare bark paintings from the renowned Donald Thompson Collection.
65,000 Years will launch the new Potter Museum of Art, which has undergone extensive redevelopment and features an impressive new entrance on the University of Melbourne’s campus, along with new and improved spaces.
To celebrate the launch of this groundbreaking exhibition, The Potter is presenting a free, dynamic weekend program of thought-provoking conversations running Saturday 31 May - Sunday 1 June. Included in this inspiring weekend of art and cultural discussion, we are pleased to highlight Tiwi art and culture across time, which sees esteemed Tiwi Artists Pedro Wonaeamirri and Johnathon World Peace Bush, in conversation with Judith Ryan AM to be held Saturday 31 May at 3:30 PM. THE COLOUR OF MEMORY: SALLY GABORI ARTIST ROOM | THE IAN POTTER CENTRE: NGV AUSTRALIA, MELBOURNE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2025
Marking ten years since the passing of Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (c.1920-2015), The Colour of Memory showcases the artistic vision of her bold landscape paintings of her beloved home country of Bentinck Island off the coast of far north Queensland in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Sally Gabori’s Artist Room at NGV Australia, presented from 12 April - September 2025, honours the late artist's impact on contemporary art and showcases a range of her most internationally recognised works.
SEAN HILL: FLOWERGY SCULPTURAL COMMISSION | TE TUHI, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND UNTIL 6 JULY 2025
Currently presented at TeTuhi, Auckland, New Zealand until 6 July is a major sculptural commission by Sean Hill, Flowergy.
This dynamic large-scale painted sculpture explores the intersection between nature, energy and art. Through this project, Hill invites viewers to experience the landscape not just as a place, but as an ongoing, interconnected force that shapes both the artwork and the world around us.
