Visiting students from Wadeye
A group of indigenous students from Wadeye, a remote community south-west of Darwin in the Northern Territory, visited Alcaston Gallery on Thursday 22nd May.
The students were in Melbourne as part of a Leadership and Mentoring Program run by the Essendon Football Club.

The boys today served breakfast to the homeless at the Brotherhood of St Laurence in Brunswick - in 4 degree weather conditions, slightly different from what they are used to up north! - and will tomorrow complete the Long Walk to the MCG, where they will see Essendon play Collingwood in Dreamtime at the 'G, the indigenous round of the AFL Season. This event recognises the huge contribution indigenous players have made to Australian Rules over the years.

The students were able to see Alcaston's current exhibition of paintings by former Collingwood AFL player, Rupert Betheras, who visited Wadeye for a community camp during his time with the AFL. The boys were thrilled to see Rupert's paintings, and had a great time trying on our white cotton art handling gloves!
