The trip out bush began in Alice Springs on Friday 14 October. First on the agenda was a visit to Araluen Centre for Arts and Entertainment for a tour of the Desert Mob exhibition and to view early Papunya boards. Beverly gave an overview of their works and their importance to the history of Aboriginal art. Tim Rollason, Curator of the exhibition than spoke about the collection during a morning tea.
The group drove along the West Macdonald Ranges on Larapinta Drive stopping at Glen Helen Homestead for lunch. From Glen Helen the group, a convoy of four 4 wheel drives, drove via Papunya community to Tilmouth Well. Here the clients were able to see the birthplace of Western Desert painting in Papunya as well as thye countryside of the Namatjira watercolours.
By late Friday the group arrived at Tilmouth Roadhouse and enjoyed a BBQ dinner.
On Saturday 15 October the group departed for Yuendumu. Once at the art centre there were many activities planned to celebrate the anniversary and official opening of the new art centre. Activities included traditional dancing and a smoking ceremony.
On Sunday 16 October the group returned to Alice Springs. The trip was a great success and an enjoyable time was had by all. |
