Alcaston Gallery is delighted to show this amazing group of artists in conjunction with Mornington Island Arts & Craft, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland.
Mornington Island Arts and Crafts Centre is situated on Mornington Island in the south east corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland. Mornington Island is approximately 60 kilometres long and 20 Kilometres wide. Gununa is the central community resource centre also servicing several out stations. In 1914 Presbyterian Missionaries settled Gununa by bringing the Lardil and Yangkaal language groups together.
The Lardil formally occupied Mornington, Sydney and Wallaby Islands, and the Yangkaal occupied Denham Island, Forsyth Island and shared Robert, Francis and Allen Island with the Kaiadilt and Ganggalida.
