Current Exhibition / Sally Gabori. All About Art. The Island Story - a moment in the sun.
Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori was born about 1924 on the south side of Bentinck Island, of the South Wellesley Island Group in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. She began painting in 2005 at the Mornington Island Art & Craft centre. Her immediate love of paint and the full spectrum of colour offered to her triggered an outpouring of ideas including depicting her country and her ancestral stories. click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge

In 2008 Sally Gabori was one of sixteen finalists in the inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Award, held at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth. She was chosen as an exciting emerging artist by the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery and featured in 'Optimism' in early 2009.
