Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori was born c. 1924 on the south side of Bentinck Island, of the South Wellesley Island Group in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. Her Kayardild language name Mirdidingkingathi means ‘born at Mirdidingki’, her country on Bentinck Island, and Juwarnda means ‘dolphin’, her totem.

Alcaston Gallery held Sally Gabori’s second solo exhibition Dulka Warngiid – Land of All in 2008. We also featured Sally Gabori at Alcaston Gallery’s Land, Sea and the Universe exhibition and publication at the Melbourne Art Fair 2008. This year the artist was also a Finalist in the inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Award and a work was acquired by the Musée du quai Branly, Paris, France. Gabori is earning a truly international reputation as an important and exciting Australian artist.
