Sally Gabori began painting in 2005 at Mornington Island Arts & Crafts centre. Her immediate love of paint and the full spectrum of colour triggered an outpouring of ideas. She has enjoyed international acclaim in recent years for her bold depictions of country executed with an inherent painterly confidence.
Sally Gabori’s work is held in major public art institutions nationally, and she was a finalist in the 2007 Togart Contemporary Art Award and in the 24th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Darwin. Her work is featured in a new publication The Heart of Everything: The art and artists of Mornington & Bentinck Islands, McCulloch & McCulloch Australian Art Books Pty Ltd, 2008.
