Search Glass Alcaston Gallery has exhibited the extraordinary glass art from the Warlayirti group of artists at Balgo, Western Australia, for many years. These unique glass pieces capture the artists’ country in the Great Sandy Desert of Australia.
Glass is an ideal medium to translate the power and integrity of the artists' Tjukurrpa (dreaming) stories into vibrant and seductive artworks.
Balgo art is known for its vibrant colour and bold compositions and these qualities have transferred effectively to the medium of glass. For the artists, working with the coloured glass, frit and rod is like creating glass ‘paintings’. Senior artists such as Eubena Nampitjin, Helicopter Tjungurrayi and Tjumpo Tjapanangka have demonstrated their skill as artists as they effortlessly move into the medium of glass and create works of exceptional quality.
